Pollinators
What are they?
Pollinators not only include honeybees, but birds, bats, ants, wasps, lizards, and butterflies too. Pollinators carry pollen between plants, a process that fertilizes the plants so that they can produce fruits, seeds, and nuts.
Why are they important?
Pollinators are essential for â…” of the food crops humans eat everyday, and they contribute over $24 billion to the U.S. economy.
What is the crisis?
Both wild and domesticated pollinators have been in decline for decades. Honeybee colonies have declined from 6 million in 1946 to just 2.5 million today. Monarch butterflies have declined by 80% over the past 20 years.

If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, man would have only four years to live.
